Bethesda Chiropractic Care for
Improved Golf Performance

PGA Golfers Padraig Harrington and Tiger Woods have used chiropractors for many years to maintain and improve their overall golf performance. Chiropractic care can be beneficial to golfers even those not golfing professionally.

Golf by its very nature is the perfect fit for chiropractic care. This is because a golf swing puts pressure on the spine. A golfer needs good posture, the ability to rotate the spine right, and good balance for golf swings. A golfer with poor posture can create flattened or exaggerated spinal curves and this can impact the swing performance for that golfer. PGA golf instructor Tom Ward says that around 50% of golfers have some sort of pain due to poor posture because they don’t have the right spine curves when golfing.

Chiropractic care can help correct your range of motion so you have fewer golf injuries, have better posture, and maintain the best golf performance possible with your swing. The chiropractor will align the vertebrae and this makes the spine move better. Treatment can include specific rehabilitation exercises, chiropractic adjustments, and various muscle techniques so you get the most enjoyment out of golf.

Research has confirmed that chiropractic care can provide a golfer with improved golf performance. A stud that was published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine stated that stretching and proper chiropractic care can improve the golf swing when that was compared to just straight stretching exercises.

The study looked at two groups of golfers. One of the group received a program of just stretching and the other got chiropractic spine manipulation care in addition to the stretching. The stretching wasn’t changed from both groups, as well as the initial swings and golf handicaps were about the same for the groups. The 43 participants performed three full swings and then the average distance was recorded. Over a period of 4 weeks the participants hit 3 balls before and after the treatments they received.

Once the 4 weeks were up the group that received just stretching didn’t have any change in their swing performance. The group that had both spinal manipulation as well as stretching, were driving the ball a greater distance right after they received the treatment.

It can be said from this study that chiropractic care can not only help top golfers improve their swing, but it can help the average golfer too. Call Montgomery County Chiropractic today and schedule an appointment.
